Education
Education may well be, as of right,
The instrument
Culturally
Institutionally
Pre articulated
He has to learn to speak our language
Sophisticated
To speak as we do
Authoritative
To try the peculiar ways of knowing
Wisdom
Power
They must dare to speak it
With refinements of tone and texture
There is an elaborate but, I will argue
The burden of such
Conformity
Intruding
Controlling Ideas
Discord when students try to write their way into the university
Intrusive
Disconnect
Knowing What I know
Psyching me out
Knowledge
From "Inventing the University" By David Bartholomae
In this poem I wanted to communicate the concept of education and what is required in order to gain this knowledge and what you will ultimately get. I wanted the readers to take away that gaining knowledge is not simple and easy. But, in the end it will be worth it because the student will gain wisdom and with wisdom comes power. Knowledge is power. In Bartholomae he uses more logic and ethos whereas in this poem I believe I use pathos. The word choice and format that it is in is supposed to be powerful and appeal to the audiences emotions.
